Heart Rate Training for Endurance Athletes

by David B. Glover, MS, CSCS (Mar 2010)

About this Webinar

Lance Armstrong once said, "You wouldn't hunt without a weapon. So, why would you train without a heart rate monitor?"

Many triathletes now use heart rate monitors, but may not necessarily know how to use them properly. The popular "220 minus your age" formula for calculating max heart rate is not accurate for most athletes.  As an endurance athlete, it's important to understand how heart rate and heart rate training zones can be used as tools to improve training and ultimately performance.

This webinar covers a basic overview of exercise physiology to include:

  • The body's 3 energy systems,
  • Relationship between HR, intensity and the 3 energy systems
  • Lactate threshold and why it's important
  • Testing to determine heart rate zones
  • Using heart rate zones in training
  • Other factors effecting heart rate

This webinar has been recorded (38 minutes) and is available for viewing. It's recommend that you download the accompanying presentation to follow along with the recording.

" ben_im It is beyond difficult to put into words how much you’ve helped me to develop and grow over the last year. I just don’t think it's possible. I certainly would not have achieved any of those great results without your wisdom, guidance and experience.  It's particularly difficult to say thank you for those intangibles...thank you.
